Dysautonomia Awareness
"Imagine a silent storm within, where the body’s most basic functions rebel, leaving patients in a constant battle for control. That’s how one could describe dysautonomia, a complex and often debilitating condition affecting the autonomic nervous system (ANS). It has remained largely unknown and is often underdiagnosed." -Vanessa Marenco
As Dysautonomia patients this is probably one of the best descriptions of our condition that we have seen.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, despite affecting an estimated 70 million people worldwide, dysautonomia remains shrouded in mystery and misconceptions. Its symptoms often mimic those of other chronic conditions, making diagnosis challenging and leaving countless individuals suffering in silence. The lack of widespread awareness has hindered progress in research, treatment options, and support systems for those affected.
So, we have decided to use our art by making digital designs that bring awareness to this condition and helping other Dysautonomia patients feeling heard and seen.
The Autonomic Nervous System is responsible for regulating essential bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and body temperature. As a result, those suffering from dysautonomia can suffer from a wide range of debilitating symptoms that can severely impact daily life. Some patients also have chronic pain, fatigue, and can develop food allergies and intolerances. There are several types of dysautonomia, with the most common being Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Neurocardiogenic Syncope (NCS), and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) or Shy-Drager Syndrome. Each type has its unique set of symptoms and challenges, but they all share the commonality of affecting the ANS. Learn more at: https://dysautonomiainternational.org
